Christine Robin is a nurse by profession. A passionate career spanning 42 years in the hospital environment. A magnificent journey and experience, emergency services, humanitarian medicine in the bush, missions in African dispensaries and 38 years at the HUG, including 35 years as head nurse of the operating theatre. Throughout her career, she has learnt how to tame human beings and provide them with care that aims for excellence, emphasising the importance of human values both in the art of care and in the management of her colleagues. Highly committed to defending nurses in the operating theatre, she was president of Sigop-Sidops for 34 years. She has organised 17 national and international congresses. She is still active as committee chair of the European group of operating theatre nurses, Eorna. She is currently free to pursue her career! She has been heavily involved with SwissReiki for a number of years, where she continues to work on behalf of patients and the committee. She is a Reiki Master and Vice-President of SwissReiki.

Title: “Oncological support through Reiki therapy”

Summary:

In 2024, SwissReiki successfully completed a pilot project in the field of integrative medicine applied to private oncology. This conference presents the project.

Reiki and cancer is a human and dynamic adventure, entirely dedicated to patients. The project involved 13 volunteer practitioners, 2 coaches, and a network of oncologists over a period of twelve months. This project was driven by commitment, sharing, listening, availability, enthusiasm, and a deep human dimension.

Thanks to the expertise of the practitioners, patients benefited from personalised holistic support. Reiki treatments were tailored to their physical and emotional needs throughout their therapeutic journey.

The objectives of the project were as follows:

• to alleviate the side effects of conventional treatments (pain, nausea, fatigue);
• to relieve stress and anxiety related to diagnosis and therapies;
• restore patients’ mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.

The results are convincing. Numerous patient testimonials show that Reiki has helped maintain their quality of life.

This project highlights the value of Reiki therapy as a complementary approach, opening up innovative perspectives in an integrative vision of health. It shows that Reiki therapy is a valuable resource for supporting people affected by cancer, but in no way replaces conventional medical treatments. The care model that has been tested has proven effective. It can therefore be replicated elsewhere, which we will implement in the near future.
